Ever dream of being on a stage like America’s Got Talent? Imagine Simon Cowell stopping your song and asking you to sing without music! That’s exactly what happened to 12-year-old Ansley Burns. This young singer from South Carolina auditioned for AGT and faced an unexpected challenge. But she turned a potential disaster into a shining moment.

Ansley’s Journey to the AGT Stage

Small-Town Beginnings

Ansley introduced herself to the judges, sharing where she’s from. “I’m from Ansley Easley South Carolina oh you got a great accent by the way.” Easley is a small town in South Carolina. Ansley has big dreams. She’s been practicing for this moment since she was little.

“When I was little I used to sing and pretend like I was on America’s Got Talent my grandma would get her phone and she video me and now I’m in course at school so I sing a lot for my school I would love to sing for their extra mud walk so America’s Got Talent is literally my dream it’s like I’m stepping inside the television because usually I’ll watch it on TV and now when I see it it’s right over there and I’m gonna be on that stage in front all these people when I’m just luck what do you notice about judges saman yeah a little bit I’m really excited yeah it’s gonna be a lot of fun I’ve never done this before.”

Choosing Aretha

Ansley chose to sing “Think” by Aretha Franklin. This is a powerful song. It requires a lot of vocal talent. Maybe the song meant something special to her.

The Audition Interrupted

The Backing Track Problem

Things didn’t go as planned during Ansley’s audition. Simon Cowell stopped her performance. He said, “I don’t think this backing track was working for you I mean it was a horrible horrible backing track so I don’t think we can judge you properly on this oh really dad we really like you but that was terrible if you’re gonna sing Aretha you’ve gotta have a great track I’m just wondering whether we should just do a verse and a chorus maybe a cappella you want some water yeah Adam commit commit I haven’t had any users this will help it it’s like magic waters yours.”

The backing track was off. It made it hard to hear Ansley’s voice clearly.

The A Cappella Challenge

Simon asked Ansley to sing without music. This is a tough request for anyone. Especially a 12-year-old! How would you react in that situation? Ansley took a moment. Then, she agreed to the challenge.
